Other tech companies including Google have also announced investments in India recently to boost the country's AI capabilities.

Microsoft plans to invest $17.5 billion in India as part of a broader push to help strengthen India's cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, company CEO Satya Nadella.

"To support the country’s ambitions, Microsoft is committing US$17.5B -- our largest investment ever in Asia," he said on X.

Microsoft currently maintains several data centres in India and caters to a wide range of enterprises, developers, and government clients through its Azure cloud platform.

The decision aligns with a broader trend among global technology companies ramping up investments in AI training infrastructure, high-performance computing systems, and data centre networks to meet growing demand for advanced computing capabilities.

Other tech companies have also announced investments in India to boost the country's AI capabilities.

In October, Google said it will invest around $15 billion to establish an AI hub in India over the next five years.

Global AI startups OpenAI and Anthropic are opening their offices in India as they seek to tap into India's vast internet users.
