Gallium nitride (GaN) wafer manufacturer Agnit Semiconductors has raised $2.6 million in a seed funding round led by Shastra VC, and with participation from existing investors 3one4 Capital and Zephyr Peacock.
The startup will utilise the new investment to ramp up production to 1 lakh GaN components over the coming two years, widen its market base to include the telecom infrastructure sector, and also build highly power efficient semiconductor devices.
Agnit Semiconductors is a Bengaluru-based deep tech startup founded in 2019 by Hareesh Chandrasekar, Digbijoy Neelim Nath, Madhusudhan Atre, Mayank Shrivastava, Muralidharan Rangarajan, Shankar Kumar Selvaraja, and Srinivasan Raghavan. It designs and manufactures gallium nitride (GaN) wafers as well as other electronic components used in radio-frequency technology applications.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) incubated startup began operations in 2021, and initially raised $ 1.3 million in angel funding that year to begin developing GaN technology.
It was the recipient of the prestigious Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) grant from the Ministry of Defence in 2023 for the development of advanced GaN semiconductors required for producing next-generation wireless transmitters used in defence applications like radars and electronics warfare jammers.
It had previously raised $ 3.5 million in seed funding in October 2024 in a round led by 3one4 Capital and Zephyr Peacock, with participation from Lakshmi Narayanan, former CEO of Cognizant.
The Indian semiconductor sector has in recent months captured immense interest from investors. Vervesemi and Sensesemi are other startups in the sector that have successfully raised funding this year.
