Anthropic has appointed Irina Ghose to lead its business in India as managing director, the artificial intelligence company announced Friday.
Prior to this appointment, Ghose was with Microsoft, where she spent nearly 25 years and most recently ran the company's Indian division for two years until her departure last month.
Anthropic, which counts Google's parent company Alphabet and Amazon among its financial backers, plans to establish its inaugural Indian headquarters in Bengaluru during the first months of this year.
India represents Anthropic's second-biggest market for Claude, its AI assistant, with developers and programmers making up a significant portion of users.
With over a billion people online, India has emerged as a crucial battleground for international technology companies racing to capture growing artificial intelligence adoption across businesses and everyday consumers.
Last year, Anthropic's rival also announced plans to open office in India capital New Delhi, and it has been expanding its team in the country.
