ByteAsk, an AI coding startup, has raised $1 million in a pre-seed funding round led by Y Combinator.

The round also saw participation from Entrepreneur First and a group of angel investors, including backers from quantitative trading firms.

The San Francisco-based startup plans to use the fresh capital for product and infrastructure development, expanding its engineering and research teams, investing in GPU compute and training data, and building enterprise-grade security, privacy, and on-premises deployment capabilities.

Founded in June 2026 by Anirudha Kulkarni and Pratyush Saini, ByteAsk builds AI coding agents for C and C++ developers. The founders previously built legal AI startup LawSutra AI, which was acquired by Manupatra.

The platform helps engineers across sectors including finance, automotive, defence, aerospace, robotics, and semiconductors with debugging, performance, memory management, and code reliability.

ByteAsk claims engineers use its platform more intensively than comparable open-source coding agents. In an internal firmware engineering benchmark, its system resolved 89% of tickets, compared with 61% for the best frontier model tested without the same environment.
