Sesame, a conversational AI startup and smart glasses maker, has raised $250 million in its Series B funding round from Sequoia, Spark, and friends, co-founder Brendan Iribe said in an X post.
"Still getting started, just with a bit more fuel in the tank," added Iribe, the former CEO and co-founder of Oculus.
The startup, founded by Iribe and Ankit Kumar, former CTO of Ubiquity6, are building a voice-first AI.
Earlier in February, Sesame had showcased its early demo of its voice model through two characters: Maya and Miles.
Sequoia in a blogpost noted that in the first few weeks, more than one million people were drawn to engage with the two characters, generating more than five million minutes of conversation.
"The Sesame team, with their obsessive attention to detail, has combined technical excellence with craftsmanship in their pursuit of the perfect AI conversational partner," added the blogpost.
Sesame is also coming up glasses that it claims will offer "high-quality audio" and access to an AI companion that will "observe the world alongside you."
