IndiaAI Mission CEO Abhishek Singh to move from MeitY to NTA as Director General

His transition also comes as the government continues efforts to expand AI adoption across sectors.

Senior IAS officer Abhishek Singh, CEO of the IndiaAI Mission, has been appointed Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA) following a bureaucratic reshuffle, according to an order issued on Tuesday.

He will move from the Ministry of Electronics and IT to the Ministry of Education to head the NTA at a time when the exam-conducting body is under increased scrutiny.

His transition also comes as the government continues efforts to expand AI adoption across sectors.

A 1995-batch officer, Singh has been serving as Director General of the National Informatics Centre, where he oversaw the Rs 10,000 crore AI programme along with key digital and e-governance initiatives.

The IndiaAI Mission, approved by the Union Cabinet in 2024 with an outlay of Rs 10,372 crore, is aimed at building public AI infrastructure, supporting startups and expanding access to compute and datasets.

Separately, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed Sanjay Lohiya, currently additional secretary in the Ministry of Mines, as special secretary in the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance. He is set to take over as secretary after the superannuation of Nagaraju Maddirala on May 31.
