Jeff Bezos has launched a new AI startup and will serve in it as co-chief executive officer, The New York Times reported.

Bezos has floated the startup, Project Prometheus, with Vik Bajaj, a scientist and investor.

Bajaj, who has already updated his LinkedIn profile as co-founder and co-CEO at Project Prometheus, is Managing Director at multi-stage life sciences investment firm that has $3.5 billion in assets under management besides co-founder at Foresite Labs and Xaira Therapeutics. He was co-founder and chief scientific officer at Google Life Sciences between 2013 and 2016.

Project Prometheus has already raised $6.2 billion with a portion of the capital from Amazon. The startup will engage in AI for engineering and manufacturing of computers, automobiles and spacecraft.

Bezos had stepped down as CEO of Amazon in July 2021 and this will be the first time he will take an operational role in a company since then.
