OpenAI will offer free access to ChatGPT Go for one year to users in India who register during a limited-time promotional period starting November 4, as the Sam Altman led AI company seeks to tap into India's vast internet users.
The move coincides with OpenAI's DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru.
The offer will be open to both new users as well as existing ChatGPT Go users. The existing users will get an additional annual complimentary access.
OpenAI had launched ChatGPT Go, an affordable subscription plan aimed at India, in August. The plan was later rolled out in other countries as well including Indonesia.
OpenAI also plans to open its first India office in New Delhi.
The AI startup is not alone in providing free access to users in India. Earlier this year, Perplexity offered a free annual Pro subscription to the 360 million users of telecom company Bharti Airtel. In July, Google also announced a free one-year AI Pro plan for college students in India.
