OpenAI said it plans to acquire Statsig, a startup specializing in product testing tools.

As part of the deal, Statsig's CEO Vijaye Raji will step into a new role as CTO of Applications, reporting to Fidji Simo, OpenAI said in a blogpost without disclosing the terms of the transaction.

Techcrunch reported that OpenAI will pay $1.1 billion for Statsig in an all-stock deal.

The blogpost added that once the acquisition is finalized, Statsig employees will become OpenAI employees. Till then Statsig will continue to operate independently and serve its customer base out of its Seattle office.

The blogpost explained that Raji's experience as founder and CEO of Statsig, and a decade leading large-scale consumer engineering at Meta, brings both entrepreneurial vision and operating expertise to scale OpenAI's next generation of products.

"Joining OpenAI as CTO of Applications is an extraordinary opportunity to bring my experience scaling consumer and enterprise products to a mission I deeply believe in: advancing AI in ways that are capable of solving hard problems, reliable, and truly beneficial to people everywhere," said Raji.

The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval.

Statsig's acquisition follows OpenAI's recent purchase of io Products, the venture founded by former Apple design executive Jony Ive, which cost $6.5 billion and focuses on developing AI-powered hardware solutions.
