OpenAI said it plans to build five new data centres across the US in partnership with Oracle and SoftBank as part of its Stargate Project.
The Stargate Project was a new company announced by OpenAI earlier in January that planned to invest $500 billion over the next four years to build new AI infrastructure for OpenAI in the US.
The planned new data centers brings Stargate to nearly seven gigawatts of planned capacity, said OpenAI in a statement.
"This puts us on a clear path to securing the full $500 billion, 10-gigawatt commitment we announced in January by the end of 2025, ahead of schedule," it added.
Three of the five data centers are being developed with Oracle at Shackelford County, Texas; Doña Ana County, New Mexico; and a site in the Midwest.
These sites are expected to create over 25,000 onsite jobs, and tens of thousands of additional jobs across the US, it said.
The other two sites built with SoftBank are located in Lordstown, Ohio and Milam County, Texas. These sites can scale to 1.5 gigawatts over the next 18 months, it added.
Earlier this week, Nvidia and OpenAI said in statement that the chip giant intends to invest $100 billion in the AI startup to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems for OpenAI's AI infrastructure.
