System on Chips (SoC) startup OptoML has secured $1.8 million in its pre-Series A funding round led by Bluehill VC and a99 VC.
The fresh capital will support hiring and starting work on its next generation of chips with the company having completed its 12 nm tapeout with TSMC.
Tapeout is the point when a chip’s design is finished, tested, and sent to the factory to be manufactured.
The startup was founded by Saravana Maruthamuthu in 2024, and has headquarters in Singapore with a research and development center in Bengaluru.
It is a fabless semiconductor startup that scales from ultra-low-power edge devices to massive hyperscale data centers.
"As AI workloads move to the edge, power efficiency becomes the real constraint. optoML’s analog-in-memory approach is designed to address exactly that, shifting how AI inference can be delivered at lower energy and cost," said Vignesh S, general partner at a99 VC.
