AI search company Perplexity AI is in discussions with mobile device maker to pre-install its Comet search browser on smartphones, CEO Aravind Srinivas told Reuters.

The move marks its bid to expand its reach and change the way people browse the internet which is currently dominated by Google Search.

Perplexity is looking to target "tens to hundreds of millions" of users next year after stabilizing the desktop version for a few hundred thousand initial testers, said Srinivas, who had earlier worked at OpenAI.

Perplexity, which is backed by investors including Jeff Bezos  and Nvidia, had launched Comet, its AI-powered web browser earlier this  month. Comet was available to Perplexity Max subscribers only before rolling it out on an invite-only basis.

The AI startup has been aggressive in expanding its reach in the past few days.

Earlier this month, it also formed a partnership with India's telecom major Bharti Airtel to provide to provide 12-month Perplexity Pro subscription free of cost to all its 360 million customers.
