Perplexity has signed a global multi-year licensing agreement with Getty Images that will allow the AI startup to display images of visual content creator and marketplace across its search and discovery tools.
As part of the agreement, Perplexity will provide image credit with link to source to educate users on how to use a licensed image legally, said Getty Images in a statement.
Nick Unsworth, vice president strategic development at Getty Images said that the partnerships like this support AI platforms to increase the quality and accuracy of information delivered to consumers.
Jessica Chan, Head of Content and Publisher Partnerships at Perplexity, noted that attribution and accuracy are fundamental to how people should understand the world in an age of AI.
The partnership comes amid debates over AI companies scraping content without providing proper credit and compensation to the original content platforms.
Earlier in August, infrastructure provider Cloudflare published a research saying that Perplexity is scraping content from website that had explicitly indicated that it did not want to be scraped.
