Marine robotics company Rekise Marine has raised $9.7 million in its seed funding round co-led by Accel and NKSquared.
The funding round also saw participation from Sameer Brij Verma and Sandeep Singhal, Industrial47, and existing investor Singularity AMC, along with the company's founders and several family offices.
The Bengaluru-based startup will use the fresh capital to complete sea trials of its flagship underwater vehicle Jalkapi, deepen its in-house autonomy software capabilities, and significantly expand its engineering team across robotics, AI/ML, embedded systems, platform systems integration, and naval architecture.
Founded in 2017 by Maitrai Maka and Rear Admiral Shekhar Mital (Retd), Rekise Marine builds autonomous ships and submarines, developing its autonomy software entirely in-house.
Maka, who serves as CEO, is an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur. Mital, who serves as Executive Director, is a retired Rear Admiral with 33 years in the Indian Navy, and has previously served as Chairman and Managing Director of Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), and as CEO of CEMS, a Siemens joint venture in Industry 4.0.
Rekise Marine designs, builds, and integrates autonomous vessels, both surface and subsurface, in partnership with shipyards including Goa Shipyard Limited and GRSE. Its software platform powers everything from man-portable vehicles to extra-large submarines.
The startup's portfolio includes Jaldoot, an autonomous surface vessel already delivered to customers; Swadheen, an autonomous survey vessel that has completed open-sea trials; and Jalkapi, an extra-large autonomous underwater vehicle built under the Indian Navy's iDEX ADITI programme.
Rekise Marine had previously raised $4.72 million from Singularity AMC and others.
