SoftBank has sold its entire stake in Nvidia for $5.8 billion.
The Japanese tech investor said that it has sold all its 32.1 million shares it held in Nvidia to fund its AI projects.
Not surprisingly, the sale sparked fears of an AI bubble as it hit Nvidia’s stocks even as a section of the people pointed to SoftBank's investments in OpenAI and Oracle.
Masayoshi Son has thrown his weight behind Stargate, the massive compute venture being built with OpenAI and Oracle. Softbank has also pledged investments to OpenAI, indicating its commitment to AI.
Softbank had first invested in Nvidia in 2017 before exiting in 2019, missing out on a $100 billion shares rally of Nvida when the AI wave kicked off. It invested again later.
