Space startup Satlabs Space Systems has secured $1 million from Finvolve and India Accelerator.

The funds will be used in research and development, advancing satellite deployment plans, and scaling its data relay network, the company said in a statement.

The Bengaluru-based startup said it provides a data relay solution for satellite operators and data users to combat delays in downlinking Earth observation data, reducing latency from hours to minutes.

The startup claims that it is developing a constellation of low-cost data relay satellites to enable faster, continuous communication between satellites and end users.

Satlabs Space Systems was cofounded by Sooraj Gopakumar and Saisree Eega in 2023. It said that it has found relevant use cases in defence, agriculture, disaster response, and industrial IoT as these sectors can greatly benefit from reduced latency in Earth observation data.

Last month, Indian space-tech company Digantara raised $50 million from investors including SBI Holdings Japan, 360 One Asset and film producer Ronnie Screwvala.

India Accelerator is a seed-stage startup accelerator that also invests in early-stage startups through its joint venture Finvolve.
