Indian telecommunications major Bharti Airtel announced a Rs 20,000 crore capital injection in its non-banking financial company (NBFC) subsidiary, Airtel Money Ltd, over the next few years.
Airtel will bring in 70% of the funds and promoter group Bharti Enterprises Ltd will cover the remaining 30%, the company said in a statement.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) granted Airtel Money, which earlier operated as a lending service provider (LSP), an NBFC license on February 13, 2026. It has disbursed over Rs 9,000 crore in credit during the last two years.
"The success of our LSP platform is proof of our ability to combine technology, data, and customer trust to deliver impact at a national scale," said Gopal Vittal, executive vice chairman, Bharti Airtel.
The NBFC will use the existing LSP infrastructure to disburse credit to underserved customers while maintaining clear operational segregation.
