BharatPe ropes in Himanshu Verma from Pine Labs as head of POS biz

BharatPe has appointed Himanshu Verma as head of its POS (point of sale) business, as the fintech company seeks to deepen its offline payments presence.
In his new role, Verma will focus on driving merchant adoption, strengthening distribution, and scaling the company’s offline payments ecosystem, a statement said.
Prior to this appointment Verma was at Pine Labs, where he was serving as Senior Director & National Business Head - Soundbox (Mini). At Pine Labs, he was also engaged in leading UPI and retail POS acquisition.
Earlier, Verma worked at Freecharge, Indepay Networks, Bharti Airtel, Samsung India, Uninor, and Vodafone.
"His (Verma's) deep experience in scaling large payment businesses and driving disciplined execution will be key as we continue to strengthen our POS portfolio and expand our merchant footprint," said Nalin Negi, CEO, BharatPe.
The statement said that BharatPe has a a registered network of over 1.7 crores merchants across more than 450 cities. It added that it is processing over 450 million UPI transactions per month.
In October last year, BharatPe appointed Ajit Kumar, previously a senior vice president at Paytm, as its chief technology officer.
These appointments come as BharatPe is preparing for its initial public offering (IPO). In June last year, The Head and Tale reported that Negi was tightening the screws on performance across verticals, starting with tech.
