Cross-border payments platform EximPe has obtained final regulatory approval from the Reserve Bank of India for its Payment Aggregator Cross Border (PA-CB) license.
This authorization empowers EximPe to facilitate international businesses in accepting payments from Indian consumers using UPI and various domestic payment channels, with funds being transferred to their overseas accounts.
The PA-CB license permits EximPe to support foreign merchants and payment service providers in collecting payments through UPI, credit and debit cards, digital wallets, internet banking, and direct bank transfers from Indian customers without requiring these businesses to establish a physical presence in India.
According to the company, this capability will enhance transaction success rates and streamline the cross-border payment experience.
Before obtaining this license, EximPe functioned as a technology solutions provider partnering with banks and has processed more than $500 million in bank-facilitated international trade payments throughout Asian markets. The firm has now shifted to direct operations as a licensed cross-border payment aggregator operating within RBI's regulatory framework.
EximPe has set an ambitious target of handling $1 billion in annual UPI-driven international transactions within the coming two years.
Established by Arjun Zacharia, EximPe serves trade routes including India–China, India-Hong Kong, India-Singapore, and India–ASEAN regions, concentrating on building regulatory-compliant, UPI-powered cross-border payment systems for multinational enterprises.
The startup has secured $3.5 million in initial funding through a round headed by Leo Capital, joined by Beta Lab, RB Investments, and multiple angel backers.
Over recent months, the central bank has granted payment aggregator approvals covering online, physical retail, and cross-border operations to a slew of entities including Paytm, Razorpay, Easebuzz, PayU, Pine Labs, and Airpay.
