The Indian government has appointed ​Rohit Jain as ‌a deputy governor of the Reserve Bank ​of India (RBI).

Jain has been appointed for a period of three years from the date of joining the post on or after May 03, 2026 or until further orders, whichever is earlier, the central bank said in a statement.

Prior to the appointment, Jain was Executive Director at the RBI. He replaces T Rabi ​Sankar who ​has retired.

Jain's portfolio allocation was not disclosed immediately.

The RBI has four deputy governors, who handle departments including monetary policy, financial markets regulations, banking supervision and regulations.

Last year, Shirish Chandra Murmu was also elevated as a new deputy governorof the RBI. He was serving as Executive Director at the central bank.
