RBI appoints Sanjay Kumar Hansda as Executive Director

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said it has appointed Sanjay Kumar Hansda as Executive Director with effect from March 3, 2025.
In his new role, Hansda will look after the Department of Economic and Policy Research, as per the central bank's notification.
Prior to this appointment, Hansda was adviser at the Department of Economic and Policy Research. He also worked as adviser at Monetary Policy Department, and as officer-in-charge at the Internal Debt Management Department. He also had a stint as analyst (financial stability) at the Bank of England, on a secondment from the RBI.
Notably, Hansda reported back to the RBI on October 6, 2025 after completing his deputation as Senior Advisor to ED (India), International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Hansda has over three decades of experience across banking sector, money and credit, interest rates and liquidity, growth and inflation, financial and capital markets, among others.
Last month, Shirish Chandra Murmu was appointed as a new Deputy Governor of the RBI. Murmu was serving as Executive Director prior to this elevation.
