WeRize has raised $7 million in a pre-Series C funding round led by Sony Innovation Fund.

The funding round also saw participation from existing investor 3one4 Capital. Existing backers including British International Investment and Picus Capital are among the startup's investors.

The Bengaluru-based fintech startup will use the fresh capital to expand its financial product portfolio by adding mutual funds, online bonds, secured co-branded credit cards, and housing loans. The company also plans to strengthen its proprietary artificial intelligence capabilities and technology infrastructure.

Founded in 2019 by Vishal Chopra and Himanshu Gupta, WeRize operates a full-stack financial services marketplace focused on consumers in India's smaller cities and towns. Before launching WeRize, Chopra held leadership roles at companies such as Housing.com and Lendingkart, while Gupta previously worked in technology and product-focused roles.

The platform connects underserved consumers with local financial entrepreneurs and financial institutions through an AI-powered distribution network.

Commenting on the fundraise, cofounder and CEO Vishal Chopra said the capital will help the company deepen its AI capabilities, expand its product suite, and prepare for future public market opportunities. He added that the company sees significant growth potential in serving small-city India through technology-driven financial services.

The latest funding comes nearly four years after WeRize's previous funding round in 2022. With the new investment, the startup's total funding raised to date has crossed $28 million.
