Adobe buys Topaz Labs to boost AI photo, video editing

26 Jun 2026, 02:56 PM

The transaction is expected to be completed during the second half of 2026.

Adobe said it will acquire Topaz Labs, an AI-driven image and video enhancement technology company, as it looks to expand its creative software capabilities.

Following the acquisition, Adobe plans to incorporate Topaz Labs’ technology into its Firefly AI platform and other creative applications. Topaz’s products will continue to be offered as standalone services through its website.

Adobe expects Topaz’s expertise in running complex AI models directly on devices will help deliver faster and more cost-effective creative tools for photographers, designers, video editors, and enterprise users.

Founded more than 20 years ago, Topaz Labs develops tools that improve image quality, upscale videos, reduce noise, and restore old footage. The company recently introduced AI models such as Astra for video upscaling and Wonder for image enhancement, while also building technology that helps advanced video AI models run efficiently on consumer hardware.

The deal comes as Adobe faces growing competition from rival creative software platforms and continues to invest heavily in AI features across its ecosystem. By bringing Topaz Labs into its portfolio, Adobe aims to offer more advanced editing capabilities within its own suite of products.

The transaction is expected to be completed during the second half of 2026.
