Amazon to invest $13 billion more for India AI, cloud expansion
26 Jun 2026, 11:12 AMThe additional $13 billion investment will expand AWS' data centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
Amazon will invest an additional $13 billion to expand its artificial intelligence (AI)and cloud infrastructure in India by 2030, as part of a broader $48 billion investment commitment announced after CEO Andy Jassy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The additional $13 billion investment will expand AWS' data centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad, said Amazon in a statement. It will provide startups, enterprises and government agencies with access to custom AI chips, managed AI services, cloud infrastructure and developer tools to build and scale AI applications.
The investment marks Amazon's latest bet on India's AI ecosystem and comes just six months after the company pledged $35 billion for the country, underscoring India's growing role in its global AI and cloud strategy.
Amazon noted that it has digitized 12 million small businesses and supported 2.8 million jobs since launching in India.
"For over a decade, we have been serving customers, sellers, developers, startups, and enterprises through our different businesses. The response has been tremendous, with strong growth especially across our ecommerce, AI, and cloud businesses," said Jassy.
Alongside its AI push, Amazon is scaling its quick commerce business. The company plans to expand Amazon Now to 100 cities and build a network of 1,000 micro-fulfilment centres to strengthen its presence in the fast-growing instant delivery market.
The expansion comes as quick commerce players intensify competition by expanding beyond groceries into categories such as electronics, beauty, fashion and household essentials.
