The funding round was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital.

Anthropic has raised a staggering $65 billion in a Series H funding round, pushing its post-money valuation to $965 billion and overtaking rival OpenAI as the world’s most valuable AI startup.

The funding round was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital, said the Claude maker in a statement.

The funding round also saw participation from investors including Baillie Gifford, Blackstone, Brookfield, D.E. Shaw Ventures, DST Global, and Fidelity Management & Research. Strategic infrastructure partners such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron also joined the round. Around $15 billion of the total funding included previously committed investments from hyperscalers, including Amazon’s earlier announced $5 billion investment.

The company said the fresh capital will be used to expand computing capacity, support research and bring Claude to more enterprise customers.

"Claude is increasingly indispensable to our growing global community of customers, and we work tirelessly to make tools like Claude Code and Cowork more helpful, more powerful, and more adaptable to their needs," said Krishna Rao, chief financial officer,Anthropic.

Anthropic was founded in 2021 by siblings Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei, along with former OpenAI researchers including Tom Brown, Jack Clark, Sam McCandlish, and others. Dario Amodei previously served as Vice President of Research at OpenAI, while Daniela Amodei led safety and policy teams at the company.

The latest funding round marks another dramatic escalation in the AI race. Anthropic’s valuation has surged since its Series G round in February, when it was valued at $380 billion.

Earlier in March, OpenAI raised $122 million at a post-money valuation of $852 billion.

Both the AI companies are reportedly planning to float an initial public offering (IPO) this year.
