Google said that it will invest around $15 billion to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) hub in India over the next five years.
The hub, which will be located in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh, will include a purpose-built data center campus capable of gigawatt-scale compute capacity, said Google in a statement.
The investment also includes the construction of a major new international subsea gateway, it added.
The investment by the tech giant comes even as the US has imposed high tariffs on India that prompted the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for use of 'swadeshi' or India made goods.
Google's investment also comes as a time as other heavily venture backed AI startups such as OpenAI and Anthropic have announced plans to open their offices in India as they seek to tap into the country's vast internet user base.
