Bank of Baroda faces alleged 1TB data leak

The bank has not issued a statement of any breach yet but the scale of the claim has triggered alarm among cybersecurity watchers.

State-owned Bank of Baroda is reportedly under a cybersecurity cloud after a threat actor claimed to have put nearly 1TB of the bank's data up for sale on the dark web.

The bank has not issued a statement of any breach yet but the scale of the claim has triggered alarm among cybersecurity watchers.

The alleged breach surfaced via the X account DailyDarkWeb, which reported that a threat actor had posted sample files and download links tied to Bank of Baroda. The purported dataset reportedly spans savings and current account details, loan records, NetBanking user data, NRI and corporate banking information, customer support files, and branch/ATM records.

DailyDarkWeb was careful to flag that the claimed volume and scope remain unverified.

Cybersecurity researcher and CashlessConsumer founder Srikanth Lakshmanan also posted screenshots he said were from the root folder of the alleged dump, and said the download link was live. He called it a serious cyber incident and urged the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to disconnect Bank of Baroda's systems from the network pending a forensic audit, citing unknown contagion risk to critical financial infrastructure.

Shares of Bank of Baroda were trading lower by 1.12% at Rs 243.85 apiece on the BSE in the afternoon on Monday.
