Digital NBFCs sanctioned 3.4 crore personal loans worth Rs 64,656 crore in Q1 FY27, accounting for 70% of the total number of personal loans sanctioned during the quarter, according to a report by the Fintech Association for Consumer Empowerment (FACE).

The report, based on data from credit bureau CRIF High Mark, tracks personal loans sanctioned by more than 110 digital NBFCs between April 2022 and June 2026.

Sanction volume grew 14% year-on-year and 2% from the previous quarter, while digital NBFCs accounted for 22% of the overall sanction value.

The average ticket size stood at Rs 18,802, up around 15% from FY26. The average ticket size remained lower than that of other NBFCs and banks, at Rs 70,025 and Rs 4.52 lakh, respectively.

Around 60% of the sanction value came from loans above Rs 50,000, borrowers with a credit bureau vintage of at least five years and customers classified as mid- to low-risk.

As of June 2026, the outstanding digital personal loan portfolio stood at 5.6 crore accounts worth Rs 1.54 lakh crore, up around 28% in value from June 2025. Portfolio quality remained stable, with loans overdue by more than 90 days (DPD 90+) accounting for 1.4% of the portfolio.

Borrowers under 35 accounted for 58% of the sanction value, while 40% went to customers in Tier III cities and beyond.

Women accounted for 18% of the sanction value, which FACE said was broadly in line with other lenders and pointed to a gap in women's participation in formal credit.

"Quality growth will sustain by keeping customer interest, transparency and responsible conduct at the centre," said Sugandh Saxena, CEO, FACE.
