08 Jul 2026, 04:48 PMAs part of the leadership changes, Rahul Chari, co-founder, PhonePe, has assumed the expanded role of chief product and technology officer (CPTO).
Walmart-backed fintech company PhonePe has promoted Srijon Biswas as its chief technology officer (CTO), placing him in charge of the company's engineering organisation.
Biswas, who has been with PhonePe for nearly a decade, will continue to report to co-founder Rahul Chari, it said in a statement. Prior to PhonePe, Biswas was at Browerstack. Earlier he was with e-commerce major Flipkart.
As part of the leadership changes, Chari has assumed the expanded role of chief product and technology officer (CPTO). In addition to overseeing product and technology, he will now lead Trust & Safety, Data Sciences & Analytics, Customer Experience and other strategic initiatives across the PhonePe Group.
Commenting on the appointment, Chari said the move reflects PhonePe's focus on strengthening its technology leadership as the company continues to expand. Biswas said he looks forward to working with the engineering teams to build products that can serve users at scale.
Founded in 2016, PhonePe operates a digital payments platform and offers financial services including lending, insurance distribution, stock broking and mutual funds through Share.Market, as well as the Indus Appstore. The company said its platform had over 700 million registered users and more than 50 million merchants as of April 2026.
Meanwhile, recently Vishal Gupta, the CEO of PhonePe Insurance Broking Services, stepped down from his role to launch his own venture. Earlier this year, PhonePe's Share.Market and wealth business head Ujjwal Jain also left after four years in the company. Shortly afterward, Akash Dongre, cofounder of Indus Appstore, also left PhonePe following a long tenure.
In March, PhonePe decided to defer its initial public offering (IPO) plans citing geopolitical conditions after filing updated draft red herring prospectus (UDRHP) with the markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in January.
