Google Cloud has named Amit Kumar as the interim head of its India business after Sashikumar Sreedharan stepped down to pursue an opportunity outside the company.
The leadership transition was announced by Karan Bajwa, president of Google Cloud Asia Pacific, in a LinkedIn post.
"Our momentum in India has never been stronger, driven by accelerating business and AI growth across the market. As we enter the next phase of growth, I want to thank Sashikumar Sreedharan, who is leaving Google to pursue an external opportunity," said Bajwa.
Kumar, who has been with the company for over five years, currently leads Google Cloud’s Digital Natives segment in India, working closely with startups and technology-driven businesses. He joined the company in 2021 as Sales Director and later took charge of the Digital Natives business.
Before Google Cloud, Kumar held leadership positions at Apple India, IBM, and Microsoft, where he spent more than a decade across enterprise sales, product, and partner-focused roles. He began his career with Tata Telecom.
Google Cloud competes with major players such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure in the country’s rapidly growing cloud market.
Sreedharan had led Google Cloud India since July 2025. Prior to that, he served as Chief Operating Officer for the company’s Asia Pacific operations and spent around three years with Google Cloud.
According to a Times of India report, Sreedharan is expected to join homegrown AI startup Sarvam AI as President and Chief Business Officer.
