AI startup Anthropic is expanding its India leadership team with the appointments of Sangeeta Bavi and Siddiq Zaman as the company deepens its focus on startups, developers and enterprise AI adoption in the country.
Sangeeta Bavi, who was formerly with companies including Microsoft and Nokia, has joined Anthropic as Head of Digital Natives, Startups and Growth for India. Sharing the announcement on LinkedIn, Bavi said the role closely aligns with her long association with founders and startup ecosystems. She noted that working with entrepreneurs over the years shaped her understanding of ambition, resilience and long-term conviction.
In her new role, she is expected to work closely with startups and growth-stage firms integrating AI into their products and operations.
Prior to this appointment, Bavi had a short stint as advisor to Bengaluru-based Seafund, per her LinkedIn profile. She has earlier also served as Chief Operating Officer at YourStory Media.
At the same time, Siddiq Zaman has joined Anthropic as Head of Partnerships for India. Announcing the move, Zaman said he will be responsible to expand the company’s partner ecosystem in one of the world’s fastest-growing AI markets.
Prior to this appointment, Zaman was at cloud-based platform ServiceNow. He has earlier held key positions at Amazon Web Services, Salesforce and HP Software.
The appointments come as Anthropic accelerates its India expansion strategy. Earlier this year, the company appointed Mircrosoft's Irina Ghose as Managing Director for India and announced plans to launch its first India office in Bengaluru.
Backed by Google and Amazon, Anthropic has been scaling its AI and developer ecosystem globally, with India emerging as a major market for coding, enterprise AI and startup-focused use cases.
Meanwhile, Anthropic's rival OpenAI has also made key hirings to scale up its presence in India, which has emerged as the second largest market for both the AI companies.
