Digital banking startup slice has appointed former State Bank of India (SBI) executive Samir Sawhney as executive director and ex-ICICI Bank senior executive Ramesh Kumar as an independent director on its board.
The appointments have been approved by the company’s board, and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has also cleared Sawhney’s appointment as Executive Director.
Sawhney brings more than three decades of banking experience across treasury management, retail banking, investment management, marketing and human resources. Most recently, he headed RMBS Development Company, an initiative backed by the National Housing Bank to promote India’s residential mortgage-backed securities market.
Prior to that, he spent over 34 years at SBI, where he served as Chief General Manager of Global Markets and oversaw a treasury portfolio exceeding Rs 16.5 lakh crore along with foreign assets worth more than $10 billion. He also served as Chairman of the Foreign Exchange Dealers’ Association of India (FEDAI).
Meanwhile, Kumar joins the board with over 30 years of experience spanning banking, technology and digital transformation. During his two-decade tenure at ICICI Bank, he led technology strategy, software development and digital banking initiatives. Earlier in his career, he played a key role in implementing core banking systems at SBI. His expertise includes cybersecurity, technology governance, operational resilience and digital innovation.
Kumar has also previously worked with slice as an advisor during its merger and integration with North East Small Finance Bank.
"Having people on our board who have seen banking across cycles, and who believe in what technology can do for the customer, makes us stronger," said Rajan Bajaj, managing director and CEO, slice.
Following its merger with North East Small Finance Bank, slice now operates as a full-stack bank offering savings accounts, fixed deposits, UPI services, lending products and credit cards. The company said it will continue focusing on responsible growth, prudent underwriting and technology-led banking solutions.
