The value of securities broker and dealer transactions through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) rose in July, even as gold purchases continued to decline.

The overall value of the merchant category-wise purchases via UPI rose to Rs 9.07 lakh crore in July across 14,971.85 million transactions as compared to Rs 8.61 lakh crore in June across 14,427.88 million transactions, according to data released by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

Digital gold purchase via the UPI declined to Rs 2,465.14 crore in July as compared to Rs 2,552.53 crore in June.

Groceries and supermarkets, which account for the largest share, recorded 3,845.91 million transactions worth Rs 82,144.98 crore in July versus 3,739.59 million transactions worth Rs 79,705.02 crore in June.

The value of debt collection agencies via the UPI rose to Rs 70,718.17 crore in July from Rs 69,032.60 crore in June.

Men's, women's and children's uniforms and commercial clothing saw 69.58 million transactions worth Rs 6,220.13 crore in July versus 73.57 million transactions worth Rs 6,955.47 crore in June; and the family clothing shops category witnessed transactions of 80.24 million worth Rs 6,789.75 crore in July against 80.35 million worth Rs 7,059.78 crore in June.

Online marketplaces witnessed 180.72 million transactions worth Rs 10,224.28 crore via UPI payments in July as compared to 158.01 million transactions worth Rs 9,046.32 crore in June.

Fast food restaurants recorded 1,478.40 million transactions worth Rs 17,561.96 crore in July versus 1,449.10 million transactions worth Rs 17,418.12 crore in June; and eating places and restaurants saw 1,269.06 million UPI transactions worth Rs 21,741.86 crore in July compared to 1,242.19 million worth Rs 21,485.16 crore in June.

Service stations registered 742.84 million transactions worth Rs 45,057.75 crore in July versus 716.87 million transactions worth Rs 47,183.84 crore in June; utilities recorded 146.30 million transactions worth Rs 25,341.09 crore in July compared to 143.97 million transactions worth Rs 23,911.27 crore in June; and telecommunications logged 837.70 million transactions worth Rs 23,640.71 crore in July versus 824.26 million transactions worth Rs 22,964.97 crore in June.

Electronics shops saw 82.80 million transactions worth Rs 11,321.72 crore in July compared to 88.14 million transactions worth Rs 12,052.04 crore in June. Government services category recorded 154.23 million UPI transactions worth Rs 12,346.59 crore in July versus 144.57 million transactions worth Rs 10,370.66 crore in June.

Drug stores and pharmacies recorded 311.94 million transactions worth Rs 13,157.06 crore in July compared to 294.16 million transactions worth Rs 12,428.84 crore in June.
