Anthropic confidentially files for IPO

Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic has confidentially submitted a draft registration statement on Form S-1 to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), taking the first formal step towards a potential initial public offering (IPO).
The company announced the filing on June 1, saying the IPO would proceed after the SEC completes its review process and would remain subject to market and other conditions.
Anthropic did not disclose the number of shares it plans to offer or the expected price range.
The filing comes days after Anthropic raised $65 billion at a valuation of $965 billion, making it the world's most valuable AI startup ahead of OpenAI.
The funding round reflected growing investor confidence in the company's enterprise-focused AI strategy and the commercial adoption of its Claude models.
Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI executives, including CEO Dario Amodei, Anthropic is best known for its Claude family of AI models. The company has emerged as one of the leading players in the generative AI industry alongside OpenAI, Google and xAI.
Rival OpenAI was also reportedly planning to float its IPO this year.
